Mumbai, Aug 25 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Thursday closed 116 points lower despite reasonably positive global cues.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 16,338.14 points, closed at 16,168.1 points (provisional), down 116.88 or 0.72 percent from its previous close at 16,284.98 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also ended in the red, 0.84 percent down at 4,847.95 points.
Broader markets too saw selling. The BSE midcap index closed 0.92 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap index ended 0.81 percent down.
