New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS): The Indian subsidiary of American automobile major General Motors Thursday reported a growth of 14 percent in its August sales at 9,050 units as against 7,941 units in the like period of last year.
"The growth was primarily driven by the recently launched most fuel efficient vehicle Chevrolet Beat diesel," said P. Balendran, vice president, GM India.
According to Balendran, the automobile market remains dampened as rising fuel prices and high interest rates was deterring customers from purchasing vehicles.
"Although we have registered 14 percent growth, the market continues to be sluggish due to the repeated hike in interest rates and fuel prices," he said.
Segment-wise, the sales were led by Chevrolet Beat at 4,681 units, followed by 1,924 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1,301 units of Chevrolet Spark, 667 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 203 Units of Chevrolet Aveo, 161 units of Chevrolet Optra and 113 units of Chevrolet Captiva.
