CBI Probe Likely in Jharkhand Land Scam: Munda

Ranchi, Sep 6 (IANS): Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda Tuesday indicated a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe would be launched into the Rs.1,000 crore Deoghar land scam.

The scam came to light last month when non-saleable government land of 771 acres in Deoghar district was allegedly converted into saleable land in connivance with state officials.

"It seems that inter-state mafias were involved in the land scam. We have sought every detail related to the scam and if needed, a CBI probe cannot be ruled out," Munda told reporters here.

There are allegations of land mafias changing the actual records to facilitate the sale of land.

Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar M.S. Meena Aug 18 had recommended a probe.
