Probe against Kerala Cricket Association officials

Thrissur (Kerala), Sep 6 (IANS) A Kerala court Tuesday ordered a vigilance probe into complaints of alleged corruption of more than Rs.2 crore by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) officials.

The Thrissur vigilance court ordered the probe on a complaint by P.K. Jacob, a founder member of the KCA, and another cricket lover.

The inquiry report has to be submitted before Dec 7, the court said.

The court ordered that the probe will cover KCA secretary T.C. Mathew, president T.R. Balakrishnan, treasurer G. Sajikumar and assistant secretary T.N. Ananthanarayanan.

There are two allegations against these officials.

The KCA erected new floodlights at Kochi's Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium recently but did not invite tenders, which allegedly led to a loss of Rs.1.15 crore, the first complaint said.

The second complaint dates back to the 2007 One-Day International between India and Australia played at the same stadium. Ticket sales for the match allegedly led to a fraud of Rs.1.17 crore.

Reacting to the court's order, Mathew said: "We welcome this probe wholeheartedly and we know that there is a group behind this."
