Kundapur, Dec 18: “Newspapers should stress on reality and work directly and ruthlessly,” said state backward class commission president Jayaprakash Hegde.
He was speaking during the presentation of the late Raghuram Shetty journalism award programme held under the aegis of Brahmavar taluk Patrakartara Sangha at Kota B C Holla auditorium of Kota agriculture cooperative society on Sunday, December 17.
“Journalists can work well only when they have the curiosity to know all the details,” he opined.
Karnataka Rajya Karyaniratha Patrakartara Sangha president Shivananda Tagadoor who inaugurated the programme spoke on the occasion. Brahmavar taluk Patrakartara Sangha president Rajesh Ganiga Achadi presided over the programme.
Meanwhile Vishweshwar Bhat, senior journalist and Vishwavani newspaper editor was honored with the Vaddarse Raghuram Shetty journalism award.
Senior journalist and Kannada Prabha newspaper assistant editor Jogi in his address said that the contribution of Vishweshwara Bhat to the journalism sector is immense. “He gave novelty and new dimension to it,” he said.
MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Yashpal Suvarna, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Kota C A Bank President G Thimma Poojary, Udupi district Patrakartara Sangha president Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, silver jubilee festival committee president Mohammed Sharif, Byndoor taluk Patrakartara Sangha president Anduka A S, Sukumar Muniyal Hebri, Nagaraj Rayappa, Kundapur were present.
Tribute was paid to the recently departed journalists Shekar Ajekar and Shashidhar Hemmanna. Monetary help was extended to the family of Shekar Ajekar. Shivananda Tagadoor and Jogi were felicitated.
Taluk Patrakartara Sangha honorary president Chittor Prabhakar Acharya welcomed. Programme convenor Vasanth Giliar gave a keynote address. Secretary Harish Kirankumar Tunga proposed a vote of thanks. Vice president Chandrashekar Beejadi compered the programme.
Journalist Vishweshwara Bhat reciprocating to the award said that the contribution of Raghuram Shetty to the sector of journalism is immense. “It is commendable that the award is being presented under the name of Brahmavar Patrakartara Sangha. Our government should present TSR model awards under the name of Vaddarse,” he said.
