Kasargod, Sep 22: In a complaint filed with the Hosdurg police in the district on Tuesday night, a person named Kandittal James, a resident of Pulloor Tadattil, complained that his car along with Rs 22 lac in cash placed in it was stolen from near Hosdurg in the district. James said he was returning after visiting Hosdurg branch of State Bank of Travancore on Tuesday September 20 evening, when the car along with the cash placed in it, was stolen by unknown persons.

The police immediately launched a hunt for the car and sent messages all over the neighbouring districts. In a swift operation, the car was found by the side of Padannakkad railway gate, without any cash in it. The policemen have their own doubts about the version of James about having kept cash inside the stolen car. Because, during their questioning, some relatives of James denied that James had any cash with him.

Finger print experts arrived from Kasargod for conducting thorough check of the car. James said that his brother, settled in the Gulf region, had remitted Rs 22 lac to him for buying landed property, and that he had placed the money in his car. The policemen have confiscated the car for bringing out truth behind the complaint, and to continue investigation if the complainant’s claim was right.

At the same time, the task force of the excise department functioning at the check point at Valeyar in Hosdurg, seized Rs 30 lac being unauthorizedly transported in a car. The policemen also arrested Mohammed Kunhi from Payyannur, Pratish Kumar from Aleppy and Srikumar from Kulalmandam, who were in the car at the time. The case has since been transferred to the enforcement directorate of income tax department.
