Islamabad, Nov 1 (IANS): Pakistan supports military actions against terrorists to safeguard its own interest and for global peace, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said.

Gilani told ABC News: "We are supporting military action against terrorists and extremists. The terrorists are working against the interest of my country and we are fighting for the peace, prosperity and progress of the entire world."

The prime minister spoke in the Australian city of Perth where the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was held.

Gilani said Pakistan was a frontline country against terror and had paid a huge price in terms of casualties and also in shape of weakening national economy, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

"Nobody can win a war without the support of masses. All the political forces (in Pakistan) including the parliament are on one page," he was quoted as saying.

Gilani said Pakistan was vigilant about cross-border movement and was interested in placing a biometrics system at the border with Afghanistan.

He said there existed an "excellent cooperation" on defence and intelligence both with the US and Australia.

"We further need to have a greater cooperation between the US, Afghanistan and the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force). We have to work together so as to fight this common enemy," he said.
