Itanagar, Nov 1 (IANS): More than three months of bitter internal revolt and political uncertainty in Arunachal Pradesh ended Tuesday with Nabam Tuki sworn in as as the new chief minister replacing Jarbom Gamlin.

Governor Gen (Retd) J.J. Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 47-year-old Tuki at a simple function at the Raj Bhavan here.

"I am grateful to the legislators for electing me as the Congress Legislature Party leader. My priority would be to work towards all round development of the state," Tuki told IANS soon after being sworn-in.

Tuki was public works minister in the outgoing cabinet and also the state Congress party president.

There has been a growing revolt in Arunachal Pradesh with a majority of the 42 Congress legislators in the 60-member house opposed to Gamlin. The dissidence was spearheaded by Tuki.

The rift between Tuki and Gamlin had become a major issue with the majority of Congress legislators demanding Gamlin's resignation for his alleged authoritarian rule.

Gamlin was sworn in as chief minister on May 5 after the death of former chief minister Dorjee Khandu in a helicopter crash on April 30.

Finally, Gamlin resigned as chief minister late Monday and Congress president Sonia Gandhi appointed Tuki as the CLP leader Tuesday morning, hours before the swearing-in ceremony.

Gamlin was also present at the swearing-in ceremony.

"We shall work hand in hand and try to carry out all development activities," Gamlin said.
