Mangalore, Nov 17: Members of Karnataka Dalitha Sangharsha Samithi began an indefinite protest in front of the DC office here on Wednesday November 16. They were questioning the tragic death of Krishna Koraga of Kinnigoli in a drainage pit.

“Under the leadership of cabinet minister Basavalingappa, in 1978, Karnataka government set up the I D P Salappa Commission. It claimed that all workers are unique and cannot be grouped into different categories. Infrastructure, health, education, employment, and basic facilities are provided to all the communities equally irrespective of class and creed,” explained Venkatesh Mundya.

“Revoking the contract-based and package systems, implementation of I D P Salappa Committee Report, fixing minimum wages, and recruitment of ‘pourkarmikas’are some of the demands of the association which are not being properly implemented,” he said.

The protestors recalled the tragedyof Krishna Koraga who lost his life while working in the drainage pit of Hotel Abhinandan in Mangalore.

Due to his death, the family has been burdened badly and they are unable to earn a livelihood and protestors demanded that his family be compensated. They insisted that the owner of Hotel Abhinandan be punished and such negligence not be repeated.
