Marriage Festivities Turn Sour, Seven of Family Killed in Accident

Lucknow, Nov 23: Marriage festivities turned sour when seven members of a family on the bride's side were killed in a road accident at Mau around 350 kilometres from Lucknow on Tuesday night. Dense fog is stated to be the reason as the jeep carrying them collided with a traffic booth.

As per police reports, Suryadev Rajbhar, a resident of Ballia district had fixed his daughter's marriage with a boy hailing from Jaunpur. After finalising the tilak ceremony they were returning on their Scorpio SUV (DL 7C 4439) late on Tuesday night. When they reached Mohammabad in Mau district their vehicle could not balance at a sharp turning due to fog and collided with a traffic booth.

The vehicle was carrying family members of bride's family and seven of them died on the spot. The list of the deceased included  Umesh Kharwar (35), Chandradev Rajbhar (43), Hardev Rajbhar (40), Shiv Mangal Rajbhar (60), Hareram Rajbhar (35), and Umapati (40).  Half a dozen occupants were critically injured in the mishap.
