Mayawati, Mulayam Cheated People of Uttar Pradesh: Rahul

Lucknow, Nov 24 (IANS): Continuing his tirade against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Thursday charged them with cheating the people by doing precious little for development during their regimes.

"Taking into account the regimes of Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav, the people of Uttar Pradesh have lost hope for all-round development of the state," Gandhi told a gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district, 250 km from here.

He said that under Mayawati's current Bahujan Samaj Party regime, people do not have access to good roads, drinking water, electricity and other basic amenities.

"In the past SP regime too, people did not get justice... At that time the police stations were run by criminals," said Gandhi.

The Congress leader Tuesday embarked upon a five-day mass contact programme ahead of the state assembly polls next year.
