BJP Protests in Jharkhad Over FDI in Retail

Ranchi, Nov 28 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand Monday staged a sit-in demonstration in front of Raj Bhavan to protest the central government's decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector.

"We oppose the FDI in retail. It will hurt interests of both farmers and vegetable vendors. Tall claims of generating Rs.1 crore employment is beyond truth. It will create unemployment, vegetable sellers will become jobless," Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pradeep Singh told IANS.

On Sunday, Ranchi vegetable vendors took out a protest march opposing the FDI. They also burnt the effigies of Walmart retail chain.

"Where the vegetable vendors will go after FDI is allowed in retail? We are already facing problems with arrival of retail shops," Ranchi vegetable vendors' association president U.S. Ojha told reporters Monday.
