Lucknow, Nov 30: Depressed over their failed love affair, a couple committed suicide in Bijnore district on Tuesday. Another dalit girl immolated herself after she was allegedly molested by her neighbour's friend in Auraiyya district on the same day. The girl is battling for her life with 70 percent burns while the accused has been arrested.

In the first incident, one Kamlesh Dohre, a resident of Phaphoond in Auraiyya district, employed in a private job at Moradabad, developed friendship with one Waseem who also worked in the same office. As the friendship grew Waseem(24)  started visting Kamlesh's home in Auraiyya. However he had evil intentions and had set his eyes on Kamlesh's neighbour Sangeeta Dohre.

On Tuesday, Waseem again arrived at Kamlesh's home in Auraiyyah. Sangeeta informed him that as no one was at home he may leave. However, Waseem grabbed the chance and caught Sangeeta. Taking advantage of the situation, he tried to molest her, however, he failed in his evil desire due to stiff opposition from the girl. Later, in a fit of anger, he left the house.

However Sangeeta felt humilated and locked herself in the house. Soon, unable to bear the guilt, she immolated herself by pouring kerosene. Hearing her screams, she was rescued by the neighbours who took her to the hospital. Sangeeta is battling for her life with over 70 percent burns.

As the matter took communal overtone, Auraiyya police swung into action and arrested Waseem who was trying to flee. A case has been registered in this regard at Phaphoond police station.

In another development, Bijnore police received information that a couple were lying in a mango orchard and were in a serious condition. Police after reaching the scene, found that the couple hardly aged 20-21 years were wriggling on the ground with froth coming out from their mouth. It appeared that they had consumed poison.

Police immediately made arrangements for taking them to hospital but they died enroute. Later, they were identified as Mithun Jatav (20), a resident of Deoband, Saharanpur and Shakuntala (30), a resident of Hardwar.

Police claimed that the couple had developed fascination for each other. The women was however married to one Vinod Kumar Saini and realised that their affair cannot materialse. They both fled from their home and took the extreme step of committing suicide.
