Madikeri, Dec 7: In an accident that occurred at Ghattadalla Heroor near Siddapur in Kodagu district on Tuesday December 6, two persons, who were moving on a motor bike, died after their vehicle got involved in a head-on collision with a mini truck. The deceased have been identified as Jose (22), son of the late Joseph from Nellihudikeri village, and Manikantha (19), son of Mayakrishna from Arekadu village.

As per routine, the two were on a visit to Dudloor in Maldare in connection with construction work. The mini truck in question was carrying plantation workers. After the bike hit the truck, both suffered grave injuries, and breathed their last on the spot. The impact of the accident was so strong that the skull of Jose was split, and his brain was found scattered on the road. His body was tossed into the roadside drain. The body of Manikantha was distorted beyond recognition, and was found fallen on the other side of the road.

The mini truck driver, who continued to drive his truck towards Siddapur, was followed by rickshaw drivers, who intercepted his vehicle, before handing over the driver to policemen. The driver, Pradeep, said he is from Periyapatna, and that he was going to police station to surrender.

Both the deceased youth were breadwinners of their respective families. Jose’s father had died six months back. Jose worked as a construction worker, and Mani used to function as his helper. Both had been popular in the area because of their neat work and sincerity.
