Kasargod, Jan 10: The general body meeting of the welfare committee of the Kasargod District Kannada Journalists’ Association was held at the Capitall Inn auditorium in the city. The event was presided over by Ravi Naikapu, president of the association.

The program was inaugurated by Abbas Beegam, president of the Kasargod City Municipality. Prominent entrepreneur, philanthropist, and senior cultural organizer in Dubai, Joseph Mathias, was felicitated on behalf of the association.

Speaking on the occasion, Joseph Mathias said, "Journalism, as the fourth pillar of the Indian Constitution, holds great status and honour. It plays a vital role in protecting the constitutional values. Kannada journalism has its own rich history. The dedication of Kannada journalists reporting to Kannada newspapers from Kerala is highly commendable. Without the security of stable jobs, you continue this work out of respect for the Kannada language and culture. Establishing a welfare fund for your benefit with the support of governments and philanthropists is a commendable initiative. I pledge my support to this cause."

Honorary president of the association, A R Subbiahakatte, district Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Dr Jayaprakash Narayana Thottethodi, councillor Varaprasad Kotekani, religious leader Aribailu Gopala Shetty, retired principal Prof A Srinath, Akhilesh Nagumukham, T Shankaranarayana Bhat, Chaniappa Naik, and retired deputy DC Shashidhar Shetty were also present.

Chief secretary of the association, K Gangadhar Thekkemoole, delivered the welcome address, and treasurer Srikant Nettanige proposed the vote of thanks.
