Mangaluru, Jan 13: The department of French, school of languages and cultural studies, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), hosted the highly anticipated French fest, Éclosion 2025, celebrating linguistic diversity on January 8 at the LCRI Hall.
Roshan Patrao, the chief guest, inaugurated the event. Dr Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, pro-vice chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), presided over the programme. Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of St Aloysius College (Autonomous); Mark Pereira, staff coordinator and head of the French department; and student coordinators Royston D’Souza and Vandan were also present on the dais.
In his address, Roshan Patrao fondly reflected on his time at his alma mater, urging students to ‘wonder like a child.’ He emphasized that curiosity is the key to learning and discovering more about the world.
Dr Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, in his presidential address, shared personal experiences from his time in France. He encouraged students to broaden their horizons by learning new languages and building relationships, stating, "A renaissance is possible when we start thinking about where we come from and where our destiny lies."
Following the inaugural programme, a series of engaging events unfolded throughout the day, including a quiz, treasure hunt, art competitions, a mock press, and a fashion show.
At the valedictory programme, chief guest, Dr Charles V Furtado, director of the administrative block at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), congratulated the participants and winners of the various competitions. He also commended the staff and students of the French department for successfully organizing the fest.
Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), and others were also present during the programme.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 150 students from eight schools and colleges across Mangaluru, showcasing the spirit of collaboration and a shared love for the French language and culture.
