Bantwal, Jan 18: A shocking video capturing toll staff assaulting a truck driver for allegedly not paying the toll fee at the Brahmarakotlu toll gate has gone viral on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred on January 17, Friday evening, at the controversial toll gate in Bantwal taluk. Despite the video gaining traction online, no complaint has been registered with the local Bantwal Town Police Station so far.

In the video, toll staff are seen physically assaulting the truck driver, opening the truck door, pulling him out by his hand, and hurling abusive language at him. They even forced the truck to reverse and leave the toll gate. This act, recorded by other motorists traveling on the national highway, was forwarded to the concerned authorities, but no action has yet been taken by the police department.

Frequent incidents of violence at the toll gate

Brahmarakotlu toll gate, situated on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, has been notorious for regular disputes since its inception. Reports of staff misbehaviour, including physical assaults and verbal abuse of drivers, have been recurring issues. Despite cases being filed against the toll staff, allegations persist that no significant action has been taken to curb such unruly behaviour.

Adding to the grievances, locals and organisations have raised concerns over the lack of basic amenities at the toll gate, terming it "a toll gate in name only." Protests have been staged by various groups, demanding its closure due to its unscientific operation and inadequate facilities.
