Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 10: As part of the LEAD initiative program in collaboration with CODP, a Mushroom Cultivation Training session was successfully conducted at Nainad parish on February 9. The program aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in mushroom cultivation. The training took place from 10 am to 12:30 pm with around 35 participants from various parishes.

The event commenced with a solemn prayer, followed by a formal inauguration by Fr Anil Avil Lobo, parish priest of Nainad. In his address, Fr Lobo commended the participants for their eagerness to learn and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, for his encouragement and support. A special mention was made of Michael D’Souza for his generous financial assistance, which made the training program possible.

The comprehensive training program was conducted by Prasana D'Souza, lead trainer from Bajpe and white mushroom producer. The training included both theoretical and practical sessions. The participants were introduced to the fundamentals of mushroom cultivation, preparation methods, essential techniques and maintenance. Participants engaged in hands-on training, preparing mushroom cultivation bags. Trainers provided step-by-step guidance to ensure clarity and proper execution of the techniques. An interactive discussion allowed participants to clarify their doubts and deepen their understanding. A selected group of participants underwent advanced training for skill enhancement and information regarding partial fee subsidy was offered to ensure accessibility to all interested participants. Mushroom cultivation spores were made available for purchase, and many participants showed a keen interest in acquiring them.

The program concluded with an engaging Q&A session, allowing participants to further clarify their doubts. The vote of thanks was delivered by Fr Lawrence Cutinha, assistant director of CODP, who expressed his gratitude to the Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, for his continued support, Michael D’Souza for his generous contribution; the lead team members, including Lionel Aranha and Oswald Rodrigues, for their dedicated efforts; Fr Anil Avil Lobo; and all participants for their active involvement. The training program was a significant step towards equipping community members with practical and sustainable livelihood skills.
