Champions Trophy: India's top order falters against New Zealand in crucial group clash

Dubai, Mar 2: India suffered an early setback as their top order collapsed against New Zealand in their final Group A match of the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday.

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, India faced trouble early on as opener Shubman Gill fell to Matt Henry via LBW in the third over. Skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson at the start of the sixth over, adding to India's woes. The setback deepened when Virat Kohli, playing his 300th ODI, was caught brilliantly by Glenn Phillips off Henry’s delivery in the very next over.

With the top order back in the pavilion, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel looked to stabilize the innings.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and chose to field. The Kiwis made a strategic change, bringing in Daryl Mitchell in place of Devon Conway. India, on the other hand, introduced spinner Varun Chakravarthy, resting pacer Harshit Rana.

Playing XIs:

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy.

New Zealand: Rachin Ravindra, Will Young, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (wk), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Will O’Rourke.
