Chandigarh, Apr 13: Punjab Police have successfully thwarted a potentially devastating terror attack by dismantling a module allegedly operated by Germany-based fugitive Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced on Sunday.

In a swift and coordinated operation carried out by the Counter Intelligence Unit in Ferozepur and the State Special Operating Cell in SAS Nagar, authorities arrested two key operatives and recovered a 2.8 kg improvised explosive device (IED) loaded with 1.6 kg of RDX, along with a remote control.

The arrested individuals, identified as Jagga Singh and Manjinder Singh, are residents of Fatehgarh Sahib district and have prior records of involvement in drug trafficking.

According to DGP Yadav, the duo was acting on instructions from Goldy Dhillon, a wanted criminal and associate of the Goldy Brar–Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Dhillon is currently believed to be operating at the behest of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has placed a ?10 lakh reward on his capture.

“This is a significant breakthrough,” said Yadav. “By dismantling this module, we’ve dealt a blow to ISI-backed efforts to disrupt Punjab’s peace and stability.”

Preliminary investigations suggest that Dhillon was involved in plotting high-profile attacks within Punjab and had recently conspired to target influential individuals.

Further inquiries are underway to explore the full scope of the module’s international connections and other anti-national activities.

Providing more insight into the operation, Assistant Inspector General Gursevak Singh Brar revealed that police had received credible intelligence that Jagga and Manjinder were transporting explosives in a Hyundai Venue. The team intercepted the suspects in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib, recovering the IED from the vehicle.

Officials say this timely interception likely prevented a significant act of violence, and efforts are ongoing to identify the intended recipient of the explosives.

This operation underscores Punjab Police’s continued commitment to dismantling terror networks and preserving public safety amid growing transnational threats.
