Mumbai, Apr 15: In a proactive move to reinforce disaster management readiness ahead of the monsoon, the 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) carried out extensive mock drills across several key locations in Maharashtra on Tuesday.

The mega preparedness exercise, which featured 12 highly-trained NDRF teams, focused on simulating emergency scenarios such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, and hazardous chemical incidents. The drill was aimed at refining response strategies and ensuring seamless coordination among disaster management stakeholders.

The large-scale simulation was conducted at multiple sites including Badlapur (Mumbai), Kondhali Dam (Nagpur), Boisar (Palghar), and critical locations in Pune district such as Bhushi Dam, Pawna Lake, Ashkhed Dam, Ranjangaon MIDC, Kolawade Village, Lonavala Tiger Point, and Andra Dam.

Teams were seen executing complex rescue operations, swift evacuation missions, and chemical hazard containment using full-body protective gear. Each scenario was designed to reflect real-life emergencies to test readiness under high-stress conditions.

“These preparedness drills are crucial given Maharashtra’s vulnerability to natural and industrial disasters, especially during monsoons,” said a senior officer from the 5 BN NDRF. “Our objective is to remain ahead of potential risks and to build stronger synergy with local administration and emergency response units.”

The initiative also witnessed active collaboration from the local police, fire departments, medical teams, and civic authorities—reflecting a unified approach towards disaster mitigation and response.

The 5th Battalion reaffirmed its dedication to public safety and swift emergency response. “We remain committed to safeguarding lives and property. Our teams are fully geared up to tackle any crisis situation that may emerge,” the official stated.

The state-wide drills stand as a testament to NDRF’s mission-driven focus on enhancing preparedness, resilience, and community safety during the high-risk monsoon period.
