New Delhi, Apr 15: Amid escalating political tensions following the violence in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing that violence has no place in a democracy.
In a statement, Dikshit said, “This is completely wrong. We oppose all forms of violence. Violence has no place in a democracy. While citizens have the right to protest and express their opinions, there can never be justification for violence.”

He further urged the state police and government to act decisively and prevent any further violence. “I hope the Bengal Police and the state government will take strict action to prevent and eliminate any such incidents,” he added.
Echoing similar sentiments, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also raised concerns about the root causes of such incidents. He questioned why organizations spreading hatred and inciting riots were allowed to carry out processions near mosques. “Why are such processions being allowed with DJs in front of mosques? The administration should not grant permission for such actions,” Singh remarked.
Dikshit supported this view, stating, “There should not have been any permission for a procession to pass in front of a mosque. Creating unrest near religious places should never be tolerated. We have seen in the past that such actions deliberately cause tension.”
Meanwhile, in a separate political development in Punjab, Congress CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa was summoned by state police following his remarks about the presence of grenade launchers in the state. Responding to this, Dikshit said, “If Bajwa Sahib has this information, he should share it with the authorities. Let's see what happens when he appears before them.”
Dikshit also pointed out the inconsistency in how statements from different political parties were being handled. “Aam Aadmi Party leaders make such statements every day, without providing proof, but why are different standards being applied to Congress leaders now?” he questioned.
