Mangaluru, Apr 24: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in association with Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi, organized a three-day summer camp for children under the theme ‘Maankam-Motiyam’ from April 21 to 23 at the Infant Mary Church Hall, Bajjodi.
The valedictory function of the camp was presided over by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Joachim Stany Alvares. Roy Castelino, public relations officer of the Diocese of Mangalore, was the chief guest on the occasion.






































Addressing the gathering, Roy Castelino emphasized that Konkani is one of the 22 official languages of the country. “It has survived because we continue to speak it. The Konkani Academy is making earnest efforts to preserve the language through various initiatives. This camp, too, imparted valuable knowledge to children. Camps like these will help children learn the language and contribute to their overall development,” he said, expressing hope that such camps would inspire children to grow and achieve.
Dignitaries present on the dais included Fr Melwyn D’Cunha, rector of Infant Jesus Shrine; Fr Dominic Vas, parish priest of Bajjodi Church; Janet D’Souza, vice president of the Bajjodi Church Pastoral Committee; Arun Raj Rodrigues, camp coordinator; and Naveen Lobo, member-coordinator of the Academy.
In his presidential address, academy president Joachim Stany Alvares stated that the Academy is prepared to organize similar camps in the future and called upon the community to make the most of such opportunities. He highlighted the close connection between Konkani language and the traditional instrument gumot, noting that the children had a chance to learn about both at the camp. He extended appreciation and congratulations to everyone involved in making the camp a success.
The programme began with performances by the campers, who showcased music, drama, and dance and shared their experiences of what they had learned during the camp. Certificates of participation were distributed to all campers.
Fr Dominic Vas extended a warm welcome, while camper Riyon Pinto proposed the vote of thanks. Samaira Fernandes compered the programme.
