Chitradurga, May 1: In a tragic road accident near Katral village in Karnataka's Chitradurga taluk on Thursday, three individuals from Tamil Nadu lost their lives, and six others were injured when their vehicle hit a road divider.

The deceased have been identified as 31-year-old Sharavana, 28-year-old Arjun, and 29-year-old Senthil. While one of the victims died on the spot, the other two succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.

According to police, the accident took place when the Innova car in which the victims were traveling hit a road divider. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst. Police believe overspeeding and negligent driving may have also contributed to the accident.

Arjun, one of the deceased, was employed with the Tamil Nadu Police Department. The group was reportedly on a trip to Goa.

The six injured passengers Salman, Naveen, Gokul, Senthil Kumar, Ramesh, and Gowtham—were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Chitradurga Rural Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Chitradurga District Hospital for post-mortem.

This tragedy follows a series of similar incidents involving tyre bursts, including a recent incident in Udupi district where a 19-year-old mechanic suffered injuries in a tyre explosion at a roadside repair shop.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
