TTP recruiting Bangladeshis alarms Pakistan’s security establishment

Islamabad, May 20: In a troubling new twist to Pakistan’s internal security crisis, Bangladeshi nationals are reportedly being recruited by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to Bangladeshi outlet The Dissent.

The revelation emerged after Pakistan’s security forces killed 54 militants in North Waziristan in April, one of whom was a Bangladeshi national identified as Ahmed Jober. Jober is believed to have been radicalized in Saudi Arabia before joining the TTP in Afghanistan.

Reports claim at least eight other Bangladeshis are currently active within the TTP, with several allegedly running online propaganda operations targeting Bangladeshi audiences. One key figure, Saifullah, a close aide of Jober, is reportedly overseeing digital outreach from Afghanistan.

Bangladeshi security agencies are reportedly unaware of this emerging threat, raising concerns about regional security coordination.

The development adds a complex layer to Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts. For Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Gen Asim Munir, the cross-border nature of TTP’s growing network marks a new challenge in the country’s fight against militancy.
