Weinstein retrial: Jessica Mann testifies relationship turned into rape

Daijiworld Media Network – New York

New York, May 20: Jurors in Harvey Weinstein’s rape retrial heard emotional testimony from Jessica Mann, who said her relationship with the former Hollywood mogul began with career hopes but descended into abuse and rape.

Mann, now 39, met Weinstein in 2012 or 2013, describing a relationship that began with professional promises and turned sexual under pressure. She told the court that although she initially resisted his advances, she later agreed to some encounters out of fear of career consequences and confusion.

In a 2013 New York hotel incident, Mann said Weinstein forced himself into her room, demanded she undress, and raped her, allegedly after using an injection to maintain an erection. “I just gave up,” she said, weeping on the stand.

Despite the trauma, Mann continued to communicate with Weinstein, seeking acting opportunities and trying to stay safe by being cordial. “I compartmentalized the part of Harvey that was hurting me,” she said, adding she never reported the rape fearing disbelief and retaliation.

Weinstein, 73, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His defense claims the relationship was consensual and mutually beneficial. The retrial follows the overturning of his 2020 New York conviction due to a flawed trial. He is also serving time in California for separate sex crimes.
