Vikrant Massey pays tribute to Prithviraj Chauhan

Mumbai, Jun 6: Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey, known for his stellar performance in 12th Fail, recently took to social media to share a deeply personal reflection on Indian history, inspired by the promo of the upcoming television show Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan on Sony TV.

"Very few people know that history has always been my favourite subject," Massey wrote in an emotional note on Instagram. "Even today, I read books out of pure interest—because to understand the present, it is essential to understand the past."

Reacting to the portrayal of legendary king Prithviraj Chauhan, Massey challenged the often-quoted narrative that Chauhan was defeated by invader Mohammad Ghori. “Prithviraj Chauhan defeated Ghori multiple times and even spared his life. It was only through deceit that Ghori finally captured him, blinded him, and ended his life in a brutal manner,” he said.

The actor went on to highlight how historical narratives can be distorted over time. “Books and our neighbouring country may claim that Prithviraj was defeated, but that’s misleading. A civilization doesn’t fall with a single battle. Centuries later, the land of Prithviraj—Delhi, Ajmer, Rajputana, and all of Hindustan—continues to thrive, while Ghori’s birthplace, Ghor, remains among the most backward places in the world.”

He concluded the post with pride, saying, “Prithviraj still lives on in our hearts. We are proud of him. But in Ghori’s country, there’s no one left to even speak his name.”

Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan airs Monday to Friday at 7:30 PM on Sony TV and Sony LIV.
