Mumbai, Jun 9: Veteran Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee has opened up about a difficult phase in his life following his short-lived marriage with actress Debashree Roy, revealing how the emotional turmoil led him into depression and a career slump.
In a candid conversation with Times Now, Prosenjit reflected on the dark days after their separation. "There was a time when I was working less. I was in a little depressed mood, I was not doing proper work," he shared. He recalled the heartbreak of being excluded from a top ten list of Bengali actors in a leading newspaper, saying it deepened his isolation.

However, Prosenjit eventually found the strength to bounce back. “The day I came back to the set, I signed nine films. It is not me, it is my blessing,” he said, crediting his resilience for the turnaround. “I have a small garden — that’s my space. Those 30 days were important for me to reconnect with myself.”
Having known Debashree Roy since childhood, the couple’s separation marked a painful chapter in his personal life. Prosenjit later married Aparna Guha Thakurta, with whom he has a daughter, Prerona Chatterjee, but that marriage too ended in divorce.
On the professional front, Prosenjit was last seen in Khakee: The Bengal Chapter on Netflix. He is set to return to the big screen with Maalik, a gangster action thriller co-starring Manushi Chhillar and Medha Shankr. Directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, the film is scheduled for release on July 11.
