Anushka Sharma’s heartfelt Father’s Day tribute and reflections amid Bengaluru tragedy

Mumbai, Jun 15: Actress Anushka Sharma marked Father's Day with a touching tribute on Sunday, celebrating the two most important fathers in her life — her own and her husband, cricket icon Virat Kohli.

Taking to Instagram, Anushka shared two sentimental images: the first captured her father, Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma, in a cheerful moment wearing headphones; the second was a handmade greeting card from her daughter, Vamika, addressed to Virat Kohli.

“To the first man I ever loved, and the first man our daughter did … Happy Father’s Day to all the beautiful fathers everywhere,” she wrote in her caption, resonating with warmth and gratitude.

Anushka, born in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, comes from an Army background. Her father is a retired army officer and her mother, Ashima Sharma, a homemaker. With roots in both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand (her mother being Garhwali), Anushka has often spoken about how growing up as a “military brat” shaped her character and outlook on life.

Earlier this week, the actress also reacted to the tragic stampede in Bengaluru that claimed 10 lives during celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory. Expressing her grief, she reshared a statement issued by RCB on her Instagram, which read:

“We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team's arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us.”

The IPL trophy's arrival in Anushka's hometown sparked immense public excitement, leading to overcrowded streets and, tragically, chaos.

Virat Kohli, who has been a cornerstone of Royal Challengers Bengaluru since the inaugural IPL season, also shared a heartfelt message for Anushka, acknowledging her unwavering support as the city celebrated the team’s long-awaited triumph.

Amid joyous occasions and somber reflections, Anushka Sharma continues to use her voice and platform to highlight both personal milestones and pressing public matters.
