Mumbai, Jun 28: Amid growing controversy over Diljit Dosanjh’s casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, television star Rupali Ganguly has indirectly criticised the actor's involvement in Border 2, questioning his sense of national responsibility.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rupali wrote, “Border was a film that evoked deep patriotism among the people of our nation. It’s truly disheartening and frustrating to see an actor in #Border2 who fails to recognise his responsibilities towards the country.” While she didn’t name Diljit directly, her comments clearly pointed towards the ongoing backlash surrounding his collaboration with a Pakistani artiste amid India-Pakistan tensions.
She further praised the film’s makers for allegedly removing Diljit from the cast: “Kudos to the makers for showing clarity and conviction by dropping that actor from the film… No room for confused loyalties in a film about national pride.”
However, contradicting the speculation, a source close to the Border 2 production told Hindustan Times that Diljit is very much a part of the film, and there is “no plan to replace or remove him.” The source confirmed that half the film has already been shot and recasting would be “logistically unfeasible.”
Reports had earlier suggested Ammy Virk might replace Diljit, but no official confirmation has been issued.
Border 2, the sequel to the iconic 1997 war film Border, stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, and is directed by Anurag Singh. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, the film aims to recreate the patriotic fervour of its predecessor.
