Jaipur, Jul 11: In a disturbing incident near the Khatu Shyam temple in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, members of a family from Madhya Pradesh were allegedly beaten up by shopkeepers for standing in front of a shop to take shelter from the rain, police said on Friday. Four men have been arrested in connection with the attack.
According to police officials, around eight family members, including three women and a minor girl, had come to offer prayers at the renowned temple. As heavy rain lashed the area, the family stopped in front of a shop for cover. When the shopkeeper asked them to leave, they politely requested to wait until the rain subsided. Despite that, he insisted they vacate immediately.

Although the family moved ahead, the shopkeeper allegedly continued to argue with them. When a female member objected to his behaviour, he became aggressive. Another shopkeeper from a nearby establishment, along with two employees, reportedly joined in and began attacking the family with sticks.
Locals who witnessed the assault alerted the police, who quickly arrived at the scene and apprehended four accused individuals – identified as Mangilal, Meghraj, Rajkumar, and Rakesh. One more accused is currently absconding.
Khatu Shyamji Police Station House Officer (SHO) Pawan Kumar confirmed the arrests and said a formal complaint was registered by the family.
Speaking to the media, one of the victims said, “We were only trying to escape the rain. The shopkeeper started arguing with my mother-in-law and then called for support. Before we could even react, they attacked us. Some of my family members were injured.”
The incident has sparked outrage among visitors and locals, raising questions about safety and civility in one of Rajasthan's most popular pilgrimage sites. Police have assured a thorough investigation and strict action against all involved.
