New Delhi, Jul 17: In a deeply disturbing case of cyber harassment, a young woman from North Delhi, working in a multinational company in Gurgaon, suffered two years of digital torture—a nightmarish ordeal involving fake escort service posters, obscene online content, and mental trauma. The accused, Yasin Shaikh, a 49-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from Pune, has been arrested by the cybercrime wing of Delhi Police after an intense manhunt.

Shaikh allegedly hacked the woman’s Facebook account, manipulated family photos, and circulated them with vulgar captions, falsely claiming that her family was running a "call girl service." Posters with her personal mobile number were also put up in public toilets, city walls, and even Pune railway station premises, leading to a barrage of lewd calls and messages to the victim and her family.

Police described her condition as living under "digital arrest", with severe mental stress affecting both her personal and professional life. “It became impossible to even answer unknown calls, fearing another abusive or vulgar inquiry,” a senior officer said.

The cyberstalker used fake social media accounts—creating and deleting them every few hours—to avoid detection. However, sustained investigation, including digital forensics and coordination with Maharashtra Police, finally led to his arrest.

During interrogation, Shaikh revealed that his actions were driven by obsession and jealousy. He was reportedly acquainted with a woman who worked with the victim’s husband and had objected to their professional relationship. When the woman blocked him on social media for his inappropriate behavior, he lashed out by targeting the victim's family in a brutal cyber campaign.

The woman he referred to clarified that there was no romantic involvement, and that she had cut ties with Shaikh due to his increasingly obsessive conduct.

Police have booked Shaikh under multiple sections of the Information Technology Act and IPC, and further legal proceedings are underway. Authorities have urged citizens to report online harassment and digital abuse immediately, warning that such malicious misuse of technology will be dealt with firmly.

The victim's family is now slowly returning to normalcy, thankful for the long-awaited arrest, but the psychological scars may take much longer to heal.
