Mumbai, Jul 20: In a shocking incident that has left the city in disbelief, an 11-year-old boy was attacked by a Pit Bull in Mankhurd, Mumbai, after the dog’s owner allegedly deliberately let the animal loose on the child. The horrifying episode, captured on video, shows the man laughing while the terrified child is mauled inside an auto-rickshaw.
The incident occurred on Thursday, when the child, identified as Hamza, was playing inside a parked auto-rickshaw. The Pit Bull was also inside the vehicle, dangerously close to the boy, while its owner, Mohammad Sohail Hasan (43), sat relaxed in the front seat — laughing and making no attempt to restrain the dog or hold its leash.
Within moments, the situation turned terrifying as the dog suddenly lunged at Hamza, biting his chin. The child’s desperate screams were heard as he struggled to get away. The dog held onto his clothes even as Hamza managed to jump out of the auto-rickshaw. Instead of helping, the owner continued mocking the child’s fear.
Recalling the ordeal, Hamza said, “The dog bit me. I begged him to stop, but he just laughed. I was very scared.” To make matters worse, the boy said that nobody came to help him — they were only recording videos on their phones.
Following the incident, Hamza’s father lodged a formal complaint at the Mankhurd Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police have registered a case against Mohammad Sohail Hasan for negligence and endangering the life of a minor.
As per preliminary reports, the owner intentionally let go of the dog, aware that the child was inside the vehicle. Authorities are now investigating whether the dog was registered and vaccinated as per civic norms. Animal control teams are also likely to step in, given the seriousness of the case.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with citizens demanding stricter laws on the ownership of aggressive dog breeds and stern punishment for negligent owners.
