Mumbai, Aug 1: Dhadak 2, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, released in theatres on Thursday, delivering a hard-hitting sequel to the 2018 romantic drama Dhadak. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film has opened to mixed but largely positive reviews from audiences and critics alike.

The story follows Neelesh, an aspiring lawyer from a marginalised caste, who faces caste-based discrimination after joining a reputed college. Amid these challenges, he falls in love with Vidhi, a woman from an upper-caste background. Their love story, caught in the grip of systemic oppression and social opposition, unfolds with emotional intensity.

Viewers have praised the film’s bold narrative and powerful performances. “A film about social issues needs bravery and honesty — Dhadak 2 delivers both,” shared a user on social media. Another viewer hailed the film as “bold, brave and breathtaking,” appreciating how it exposes the realities of urban caste bias.

Triptii Dimri’s performance as Vidhi has drawn widespread acclaim for its depth and restraint, while Siddhant Chaturvedi was noted for his compelling portrayal of Neelesh. “Triptii brings quiet fire, Siddhant is a revelation,” said a review.

Some, however, pointed to flaws in execution. A critic gave it 2.5 stars, calling the film “bold in theme but messy in delivery” with too many subplots and a lack of emotional depth. Others felt the soundtrack lacked the magic that made the original Dhadak memorable.

Despite this, many called it a worthy one-time watch for its realistic take on forbidden love, caste divide, and emotional climax.

Backed by Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures, Dhadak 2 also features Vipin Sharma, Manjiri Pupala, Deeksha Joshi, Priyank Tiwari, Amit Jaat, Mayank Khanna, and Ashwant Lodhi in key roles.
