Seoul, Aug 13: In a major development shaking the K-pop industry, Seoul’s Mapo Police Station has confirmed that YG Entertainment — home to global stars like G-Dragon — has been raided as part of an ongoing probe into alleged copyright infringement. The case also names the label’s founder, Yang Hyun Suk.

According to Korean media reports, the investigation stems from a complaint filed in November 2024 by an unnamed composer, who claims YG Entertainment reproduced his song without permission and later included it in one of G-Dragon’s albums.

Police sources revealed that investigators have so far carried out two ‘search-and-seizure’ operations, one of which targeted YG Entertainment’s headquarters. Officials have refrained from sharing further details, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing case.

A report by TV Report claims that the disputed track was allegedly modified into ‘My Age Is 13’ and later performed as part of a medley — My Age Is 13 + Storm + Hip Hop Gentlemen + G-Dragon — during the rapper’s 2010 live album Shine a Light.

The raids have ignited fierce debate among fans. While some questioned why an incident dating back over a decade is resurfacing now, others suggested police must have had “substantial grounds” to launch such an aggressive investigation.

“They must have had a reason to do it, so why overreact? lol,” one fan remarked online. Another comment, translated from Korean, read: “When they do something this extreme in a case like this, there’s usually a reason behind it.”

Some voices, however, hinted at political or reputational motives, with one user writing: “Feels like the prosecution just wants to keep making noise about GD. Since the drug thing didn’t work out, maybe they got an order to dig into anything they can find.”

G-Dragon’s Past Scrutiny

The latest allegations come not long after G-Dragon faced, and was cleared of, drug-related charges in late 2023 — a case that drew massive media attention worldwide.

For now, authorities maintain that the investigation remains active, with no official word yet on possible charges against either G-Dragon or Yang Hyun Suk.
