Mumbai, Aug 19: Two decades after audiences first fell in love with the gentle romance of Parineeta and its iconic track Piyu Bole, singer Shreya Ghoshal surprised fans by releasing an unreleased verse from the beloved song, originally sung by her and Sonu Nigam.

Celebrating 20 years of the film and her enduring creative bond with composer Shantanu Moitra and lyricist Swanand Kirkire, Shreya shared the verse on Instagram with a heartfelt caption:

"Here we go - The Unreleased Verse - Piyu Bole...We celebrate 20 years of #Parineeta but more than that this year also marks 20 years of our friendship! The trio which the world loved and how!"

The track, beautifully picturised on Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan, remains one of the most cherished songs from the film, directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar.

Vidya Balan also reminisced about the album, revealing that Piyu Bole was the first song she heard from the soundtrack and still holds a special place in her heart.

“There is something about Piyu Bole that just has my heart. It’s so easily hummable, has that old-world charm, and the way it was shot made it timeless,” she said, adding that even younger generations connect with the song today.

Vidya also shared an emotional memory of hearing Raat Hamari Toh, another track from the film, for the first time while shooting a music video with Sarkar in Kolkata. “I burst out crying in the car. It’s such a beautiful, haunting, and powerful song,” she recalled.

As fans celebrate 20 years of Parineeta, the surprise verse from Piyu Bole is a nostalgic gift that reaffirms the timeless magic of its music.
