Kundapur, Aug 28: The Kundapur rural police on Wednesday seized a large quantity of liquor being sold illegally in Heskattur village, Kundapur taluk. Acting on reliable information, police sub-inspector Bhimashankar Sinnur Sanganna and his team raided the area behind Saanvi Poultry Farm and found a man in possession of four cartons filled with liquor packets.

The accused has been identified as Sheshadri (43), son of Shankarappa, a resident of Nooji, Korgi village, Kundapur. Upon inspection of the cartons, police recovered 72 packets of Haywards Cheers Whisky (90 ml), 96 packets of Original Choice Whisky (90 ml), an additional 21 packets of Original Choice Whisky (90 ml), and 84 packets of Mysore Lancer Whisky (90 ml). In total, 273 liquor packets were seized, valued at Rs 13,650, calculated at Rs 50 per packet. Police also confiscated Rs 280 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the sale.

Officials stated that despite a district-wide ban on liquor sales during Ganesh Chaturthi, as ordered by the deputy commissioner, the accused was illegally selling alcohol without a license for personal gain. Following the raid, a case was registered at Kundapur rural police station.
