Bantwal, Aug 30: A man from Bantwal has fallen victim to a sophisticated share market investment scam, losing a staggering Rs 24.90 lac. The incident has prompted the CEN police station to launch an investigation.

Subrahmanya, a resident of Bantwal, was initially contacted by an unknown caller who claimed to be an investment advisor. The caller introduced a platform named "Five Paisa" for share market investments and asked Subrahmanya if he was interested in participating. Persuaded by the pitch, Subrahmanya agreed to invest and was instructed to download the "Five Paisa Max" app.

To begin, the fraudster convinced him to make an initial deposit of Rs 40,000, promising that this would open the door to lucrative investment opportunities. Subrahmanya was then assured that he could withdraw funds easily from the platform after the deposit. Initially, he withdrew Rs 1,000 successfully, which led him to trust the scheme further.

Encouraged by this, he proceeded to transfer a total of Rs 24.90 lac into multiple accounts provided by the fraudsters, believing he was investing in genuine stock market opportunities. However, when Subrahmanya attempted to withdraw his funds, he was shocked to discover that the transactions were blocked, and his investments were inaccessible.

Realising he had been duped, Subrahmanya filed a formal complaint with the CEN police station.

Police have now registered a case and are actively investigating the scam to identify those responsible for the fraudulent scheme.
