‘Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra’ off to flying start, grosses 31.05 cr in 5 days

Mumbai, Sep 2: Malayalam cinema has entered the superhero genre with its latest offering, ‘Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra’. The film, which follows the story of a young woman who acquires mystical powers while overcoming personal struggles, has opened to a tremendous response at the box office.

The film has collected an impressive 31.05 cr worldwide in its first five days.

On Day 1 (Thursday), the movie grossed 2.7 cr , entirely from its Malayalam version. The momentum picked up on Day 2 (Friday), earning 4 cr , with 3.65 cr from Malayalam and 0.35 cr from Tamil, recording a 48.15% jump. Day 3 (Saturday) saw a massive surge, with collections touching ?7.6 crore (Malayalam 5.8 cr , Tamil 0.6 cr , Telugu 1.2 cr), marking 90% growth.

The Sunday (Day 4) business stood at 10.1 cr , with 7.4 cr from Malayalam, 1.1 cr from Tamil, and 1.6 cr from Telugu, an increase of 32.89% over the previous day. Early estimates for Day 5 (Monday) suggest earnings of 6.65 cr , pushing the total five-day figure to 31.05 cr.

Directed as the first installment of the Wayfarer Cinematic Universe (WCU), the film blends Indian folklore, modern sci-fi, and horror. The star cast includes Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, Sandy, Arun Kurian, Chandu Salimkumar, Nishanth Sagar, Raghunath Paleri, Vijayaraghavan, Nithya Shri, and Sarath Sabha.

While the theatrical run continues successfully, fans are eagerly awaiting its OTT release. Though the makers are yet to announce the official streaming partner, reports suggest that ‘Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra’ is likely to stream on Netflix. Notably, producer Dulquer Salmaan’s earlier ventures ‘Kurup’ and ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ were also released on the same platform.
