New York, Sep 3: Indian tennis player Yuki Bhambri and his partner, Michael Venus of New Zealand, have advanced to the men's doubles quarterfinals of the US Open for the first time in Bhambri's career. The 14th-seeded duo achieved the feat by defeating the fourth-seeded German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz with a straight-set victory of 6-4, 6-4.

This marks a significant milestone for Bhambri, India's top-ranked men's doubles player. Last year, he had reached the pre-quarterfinals with his former partner, Albano Olivetti.

Bhambri and Venus's journey to the quarterfinals began with a win against Gonzalo Escobar of Colombia and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela of Mexico, with a score of 6-1, 7-5.

In their upcoming quarterfinal match, the Indo-Kiwi pair will face the 11th-seeded team of American veteran Rajeev Ram and his Croatian partner, Nikola Mektic. Ram recently celebrated his 500th tour-level doubles victory, becoming the seventh active male player and the only active American to reach this milestone.

Other Indian players in the tournament faced early exits, with Rohan Bopanna and his partner Romain Arneodo, as well as the teams of Arjun Kadhe with Diego Hidalgo, and Anirudh Chandrasekar with Vijay Sundar Prashanth, all being eliminated in the opening rounds.
