Kantara Chapter 1’ roars at box office, collects Rs 106 cr in two days

Bengaluru, Oct 4: Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has opened to a roaring start, collecting Rs 106.85 crore in just two days, setting new records for a Kannada film. The prequel to the 2022 blockbuster stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, alongside Shetty, who also directed the film.

According to reports, the film earned Rs 45 crore on its second day, following an impressive Rs 60 crore opening on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2. In comparison, the first Kantara collected only Rs 4.6 crore in its initial two days but went on to gross over Rs 400 crore worldwide.

With an average occupancy of 82.31%, theatres remained packed across Karnataka. Bengaluru alone hosted over 950 shows, maintaining 86% occupancy. Industry analysts expect the film to cross Rs 200 crore by the weekend.

Celebrities from across Indian cinema have showered praise on the film. Jr NTR lauded Rishab Shetty for excelling as both actor and director, while Prabhas called it a “phenomenal film” and the “biggest blockbuster of the year.”

Yash, in a heartfelt post, described Kantara Chapter 1 as “the new benchmark for Kannada and Indian cinema,” applauding the cast and crew for their passion and craftsmanship.

With overwhelming audience response and glowing reviews, Kantara Chapter 1 has reaffirmed Rishab Shetty’s place as one of Indian cinema’s most visionary filmmakers.
