Mangaluru, Oct 8: The 31st batch of the undergraduate physiotherapy course for the academic year 2025–2026 was inaugurated at Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, a unit of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, on Wednesday, October 8, at the Father Muller Convention Centre.

The chief guest for the event was Dr UT Ifthikar Ali, chairman of the Karnataka State Allied and Healthcare Council. The programme was presided over by Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI). Dr Michael Santhumayor, administrator, and Dr Cherishma D’Silva (PT), principal, were also present.

The event began with a band procession welcoming the dignitaries, followed by a prayer song, lighting of the lamp, and a welcome address.

During the inaugural address, Dr UT Ifthikar Ali expressed humility, saying, “First of all, I am not a good speaker. We came from the grassroots level; we are common people.” He fondly shared his memories of student life at Father Muller College back in 1995.

He emphasized, “Standing is not a profession, giving respect to your teachers, shows your professionalism.”

Encouraging the students, he advised them to be happy and keep everyone around them happy. He further announced that a physiotherapy conference will be organized at Father Muller College in the days to come. He concluded his address by congratulating the newly inducted students and wishing them success in their academic journey.

Following this, the chief guest was honoured with a memento, shawl, and floral bouquet as a token of appreciation by the management.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo assured the parents and students, “There is no need for agitation or worry. You are safe here in Father Muller College.”

He went on to explain the definition and essence of physiotherapy, saying, “The ability of empathy and mobility are most important in this profession. Your touch should be soft; you restart the patient’s life — it is both a great responsibility and a wonderful opportunity.”

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the college anthem.
