Mangaluru, Nov 1: The formation of Karnataka state, or Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with a splendid ceremony by the district administration at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday November 1.
District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao inspected the guard of honour. He also presented the 2025 district-level awards to 80 achievers and distinguished organizations at the programme.
Addressing the gathering, the minister said, “Today, as we celebrate 69 glorious years of Karnataka’s formation, let us remember the great leaders, writers, and visionaries who fought for a unified Kannada state. Ours is a land rich in culture, language, art, and heritage — and we must take pride in being part of this legacy.

“Karnataka has always been a symbol of peace and harmony, where people of all faiths and communities live together with mutual respect. As Mahatma Gandhi said, every person must love their mother tongue — and we must all work to promote and preserve Kannada in our daily lives.
“The government is committed to protecting and developing Kannada language and culture. Technological advancements, Unicode development, and digital initiatives have ensured Kannada thrives even in the modern era.
“Alongside cultural pride, we are equally focused on welfare and development. Through guarantee schemes like Gruha Jyothi, Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Anna Bhagya, and Yuva Nidhi, we have brought tangible benefits to lakhs of people in Dakshina Kannada — empowering women, supporting farmers, and uplifting weaker sections.
“We are developing essential infrastructure, improving schools, upgrading health facilities, and promoting tourism. Major projects like the Tech Park at Derebail, new housing schemes, beach development, and the proposed ring road will boost employment and connectivity in the region.
“Let us continue to preserve our traditions, protect our culture, and work together for a prosperous, inclusive, and self-reliant Karnataka,” he said.
The event was attended by MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, MLCs Ivan D'Souza and Manjunath Bhandary, deputy commissioner Darshan H V, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Stany Alvares, Padma Shri Hajabba, Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation tchairperson Mamatha Gatti, and other dignitaries.
