Kochi, Nov 9: Actor Anupama Parameswaran announced on Sunday that she has initiated legal proceedings against a 20-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu for allegedly circulating morphed images of her and spreading false claims on social media.

In a statement shared via Instagram, Parameswaran revealed that she recently discovered an online profile posting “extremely inappropriate and fabricated content” about her and her family, while also tagging her friends and co-actors.

“The posts contained morphed pictures and unfounded accusations. It was heartbreaking to see such targeted harassment unfold on social media,” the actor wrote.

Upon further investigation, she learned that the same individual had been operating multiple fake accounts to continue spreading misinformation.

Following these findings, Parameswaran filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Police in Kerala. “Their swift and professional response helped identify the person responsible for these actions,” she said.

The accused was found to be a 20-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu. Parameswaran, however, stated that she had chosen not to reveal the individual’s identity, citing compassion for her age and future. “I don’t want to cause her lasting harm or mental distress,” she added.

Reiterating the importance of online responsibility, Parameswaran remarked, “Having a smartphone or access to social media does not grant anyone the right to defame, harass, or spread hate.”

She confirmed that legal measures are now underway and warned that cyberbullying carries real consequences. “Being an actor or public figure doesn’t mean one forfeits the right to dignity and safety,” she said. “Cyberbullying is a crime — and accountability is essential.”
