Udupi: MAHE’s 33rd convocation to celebrate legacy of academic distinction

Udupi, Nov 19: The 33rd convocation ceremony of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) will be held from November 21 to 23 at KMC Greens, Manipal.

The convocation ceremony of the MAHE Bengaluru campus will be held from November 29 to 30 in Bengaluru. MAHE, an Institution of Eminence and a Deemed-to-be University ranked third in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 in the university category, marks this milestone event as a reflection of its longstanding commitment to nurturing capable graduates, fostering innovation, and advancing excellence across disciplines.

This year’s convocation will bring together distinguished academic leaders, industry experts, faculty members, families, and graduating students for three days of ceremony and celebration in Manipal, followed by two days of convocation events at the Bengaluru campus.

In Manipal, 6,148 students will be conferred their degrees. On November 29, the convocation in Bengaluru will witness the graduation of over 917 students from the MAHE Bengaluru campus, while 1,385 students will receive their online degrees from MAHE on November 30.

The event will honour outstanding academic achievement, recognise meritorious students with gold medals, and confer graduate, post-graduate and doctoral degrees upon scholars who have made significant contributions to research.

Adding to the stature of the occasion, each day will be graced by an eminent chief guest: Professor Ananya Mukherjee, Vice Chancellor, Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR; Bikram Singh Bedi, vice president, Asia Pacific Strategies Initiatives, Google Cloud, New Delhi and Professor (Dr) Hany Eteiba, president, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow -all in Manipal phase of convocation.

The Bengaluru phase of the convocation will also feature distinguished chief guests, further elevating the significance of the event: Rajkamal Vempati, group executive & head of Human Resources, Axis Bank, and Paroma Chatterjee, CEO, Revolut India.

Addressing at the press conference in Manipal Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE, said that the three-day ceremony reflects MAHE’s commitment to recognising excellence across disciplines and preparing students for an ever-evolving world. Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, VSM (Retd), vice chancellor, MAHE, added that the 33rd convocation stands as a celebration of academic achievement and more than three decades of resilience, innovation, and dedication shown by MAHE’s students.

Each day of the ceremony will feature a formal academic procession, invocation, conferment of degrees, and congratulatory messages from university leadership. The event will also highlight MAHE’s legacy of academic excellence, vibrant interdisciplinary ecosystem, and global outlook that continues to shape skilled professionals and emerging leaders.

Over three days in Manipal, the convocation will celebrate the accomplishments of over 4,950 graduating students in presence and 1,198 in absentia, while the Bengaluru ceremony will be held over two days will honour and728 graduates in presence and 189 in absentia. MAHE Online Education will honour 625 students in person and 760 in absentia during the ceremony to be held in MAHE Bengaluru campus.

Fields such as Health Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Management, Design, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Life Sciences, their accomplishments reflect the breadth and strength of MAHE’s academic environment. The ceremony marks not only the completion of their programmes but also their transition into new professional and research pathways shaped by the comprehensive and transformative education that defines MAHE.

A total of 15 gold medals will be awarded this year, 12 at the Manipal campus and 3 at the Bengaluru campus.

Biographies of chief guests:

Professor Ananya Mukherjee, vice chancellor, Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR

Professor Mukherjee has received several prestigious recognitions, including the 2024 CREATE Global Leadership Award for transformative leadership in higher education and the 2025 Economic Times Education Excellence Award for visionary leadership.

She was named among the 15 Most Influential Women in Education by Business World in both 2024 and 2022, and among the 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada in 2021. She holds a PhD from the University of Southern California and BA and MA degrees in Economics from Jadavpur University. Her academic work covers international development and the Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on India and South Asia.

Bikram Singh Bedi, vice president, Asia Pacific Strategic Initiatives, Google Cloud, New Delhi

A distinguished technology leader and proud alumnus of MAHE, Bedi completed his BE in Electronics and Communication at the Manipal Institute of Technology (1989–1993). He has extensive experience in strategic innovation and cloud technologies across the Asia-Pacific region.

Before joining Google, he established the AWS business in India and served as the head of India and South Asia for six years. He also held various leadership roles at IBM and Oracle. Bedi was instrumental in setting up Amazon Web Services in India and led the vertical for six years.

Professor (Dr) Hany Eteiba, president, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

Professor Eteiba is an internationally recognised interventional cardiologist and the first international medical graduate to serve as President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. His more than 20 years of service to the College include roles as International Director and vice president (Medical).

He has also held leadership positions, including president of the Scottish Cardiac Society. He currently serves as Associate Medical Director of the Golden Jubilee and is an honorary professor at the University of Glasgow. Originally from Cairo, he completed his medical education at Al-Azhar University in Cairo.

Rajkamal Vempati, group executive & head of Human Resources, Axis Bank

Rajkamal Vempati is a distinguished HR leader serving as group executive & head of Human Resources at Axis Bank, where she is a member of the Management Committee and a strong advocate for creating an inclusive, future-ready workplace. She leads the bank’s people strategy, nurturing careers through innovative programs such as Axis’ widely recognized Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives and its Giga Opportunities platform. 

Rajkamal previously held leadership roles at ICICI Lombard, Hewitt Associates, GE Capital, and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. An alumna of Himachal Pradesh University and XLRI Jamshedpur, she is a recipient of the XLRI Distinguished Alumnus Award and holds an honorary doctorate from Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies.

Paroma Chatterjee, CEO – Revolut India

Paroma Chatterjee is a distinguished fintech leader driving Revolut’s expansion in India. As CEO, she leads the company’s regulatory strategy, market entry, and product roadmap, establishing India as a key technology and innovation hub for the global business.

Paroma brings nearly two decades of leadership experience across financial services, telecom, and e-commerce, with senior roles at Lendingkart, Airtel Money, Flipkart, and Via.com before joining Revolut.

An alumna of IIM Lucknow and St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, she is widely recognised for shaping digital finance in India and for building high-performing teams that accelerate financial inclusion and technology-led growth.
