Jaipur, Dec 1: Chandigarh University’s Tanya Choudhary lit up the track and field arena at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, smashing her own meet and All India University (AIU) record to clinch the women’s hammer throw gold at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) Rajasthan 2025. The five-time KIUG participant hurled the hammer to an impressive 64.29m, extending her legacy with a third straight title.
The ongoing fifth edition of KIUG has brought together 4,448 athletes from 222 universities, competing across 23 disciplines in seven host cities of Rajasthan. The event is organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in collaboration with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and hosted by Poornima University.

Tanya, who represented India at the Hangzhou Asian Games, eclipsed her earlier meet record of 60.61m. Panjab University’s Haqikat Kaur Grewa took silver with a 51.90m effort, while Punjabi University’s Aman Deep Kaur secured bronze with 45.06m. “I was aiming for the national record, but I’m happy to take home my third consecutive KIUG gold,” Tanya said.
Chandigarh University enjoyed another high when Shiksha won the women’s shot put gold with a 15m throw, taking the institution to fourth place on the medals table with 13 gold medals. Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) continued its dominant run, leading with 30 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
The highlight of the evening session came in the sprints. Jain University’s Keerthana stormed to victory in the women’s 100m final, clocking 11.94 seconds to earn the university’s first gold outside swimming. Teena Pareek of Lovely Professional University (12.18s) and Himachal Pradesh University’s Samriti Jamwal (12.21s) followed.
In the men’s 100m, Shivaji University’s Rushiprasad Desai powered to gold with a swift 10.53 seconds. Laukik Melge of SPPU (10.59s) claimed silver, while Jai Bhoir of Somaiya Vidyavihar (10.86s) took bronze.
The day began with long-distance triumphs as Rabindranath Tagore University’s Bushra Khan captured the first athletics gold of the Games by winning the women's 5000m in 18:15.27. In the men’s category, Lalit Narayan Mithila University’s Trilok Kumar took gold with a timing of 15:06.16.
In football, Guru Nanak Dev University set up a women’s final against Chaudhary Bansilal University after their respective semifinal victories.
Meanwhile, beach volleyball, hockey, and table tennis also saw intense battles as universities competed to secure crucial points.
