New Delhi, Dec 4: Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma on Wednesday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing the curtains down on a memorable journey that saw him don the national colours and shine in the Indian Premier League for over a decade.
The 37-year-old seamer, who represented India in 26 ODIs and 8 T20Is, took to Instagram to share an emotional note, expressing gratitude to fans, teammates and mentors who shaped his cricketing career.

“Today with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket,” Mohit wrote. “From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing.”
Mohit made his India debut in 2013 and soon became a reliable option in the limited-overs setup. He claimed 35 wickets in ODIs and six in T20Is, and was part of India’s 2015 ODI World Cup squad. Under MS Dhoni’s leadership at Chennai Super Kings, he emerged as a trusted death-overs specialist.
A veteran of four IPL finals — though the trophy eluded him — Mohit enjoyed stints with CSK, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans. His resurgence in 2023 saw him finish as the second-highest wicket-taker of the season for Titans, marking a remarkable comeback story in the league.
Mohit also credited the Haryana Cricket Association and his long-time mentor Anirudh Chaudhry for being pillars of support. He reserved a special thank you for his wife, acknowledging her patience and encouragement through the highs and lows of his career.
“Thanku to the BCCI, my coaches, my teammates, IPL franchises, support staff and all my friends for their love and support,” he wrote, adding, “Innings over, gratitude forever.”
As Mohit Sharma steps away from the field, he expressed hope of contributing to the sport in new ways. His departure marks the end of an era for a hardworking cricketer who carved his place in Indian cricket with determination, skill and heart.
