Milan, Dec 10: Dominik Szoboszlai emerged as Liverpool’s match-winner, converting an 88th-minute penalty to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday, easing the growing pressure on manager Arne Slot.
With star forward Mohamed Salah absent following his recent on-field controversy, Liverpool showed improved defensive organisation but lacked creativity for long spells. Clear chances were few, with Inter’s Lautaro Martinez forcing Alisson Becker into a strong save near halftime.

The decisive moment arrived when the Video Assistant Referee detected a shirt-pull on Florian Wirtz by defender Alessandro Bastoni during a late attacking move. After a brief review, the referee pointed to the spot, and Szoboszlai made no mistake, sending Liverpool home with a valuable away win.
Liverpool’s backline, led by Virgil van Dijk and supported ably by Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson on the flanks, stood firm to record a clean sheet in what was otherwise a largely tactical battle. The result marked Slot’s first win since taking charge of the Reds’ Champions League campaign.
Liverpool will hope the victory boosts confidence as they continue their European journey without their sidelined talisman Salah.
