Karachi, Dec 12: A shocking episode of violence unfolded at the National Games football semifinal in Karachi after players and officials of Pakistan Army and WAPDA teams clashed moments after the final whistle, prompting the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) and Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) to initiate parallel investigations.
The incident, captured live on television and now widely circulating on social media, occurred at the KPT Sports Complex where tempers flared soon after Army edged out WAPDA in a closely fought contest.

According to reports, the confrontation began when WAPDA players reacted angrily to Army footballers celebrating their narrow win near the WAPDA dugout. Their frustration was fuelled further by a controversial penalty awarded to Army during the match — a decision that had already sparked heated protests on the field.
As emotions spiralled out of control, players and officials from both sides engaged in punching, kicking and aggressive pushing, turning the post-match atmosphere into complete chaos. The situation worsened when several WAPDA players allegedly chased the match referee all the way to his changing room.
Sources said the referee was manhandled before other players and officials intervened to rescue him.
A PFF official confirmed that the federation was fully aware of the incident and had begun gathering reports. “We will conduct our own inquiry, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against any player or official responsible for initiating or escalating the fight,” he stated, adding that the POA would be holding a separate investigation as the National Games fall under its domain.
In the aftermath of the violent clash, multiple players and staff members from both teams are reported to have sustained injuries. With video footage now circulating widely, there are increasing calls for stern action to restore discipline and protect the integrity of competitive football in Pakistan.
Authorities have assured that stringent measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from tarnishing future tournaments.
