Karkala, Feb 23: A six-year-old girl lost was suffocated to death, after the food she consumed at Anganwadi got trapped in her trachea on Wednesday February 22. The victim has been identified as Pruthvi (6), daughter of Prabhakar Moolya and Sunanda from Bola Majalkody.

As usual, nutria corn pops were served to the students at the Anganwadi on Wednesday. Pruthvi, who had arrived at the Anganwadi centre at around 9 am, also consumed the food at around 10 am. At 10.30 am, she vomited. She was immediately taken to the medical officer of the local primary health centre, from where she was referred to a private hospital in Karkala. However, she died before reaching the hospital, it is gathered.

It is suspected that the girl would have choked to death due to the food which was stuck in the girl’s windpipe. However, 15 other children of this Anganwadi, who too consumed this food, did not complain of any adverse symptoms. The doctor who checked the health of the other kids also said there is nothing to worry. So, actual reason for her death is expected to be revealed by the post mortem report.

The father of the girl works in a hotel in Pune, while her mother rolls bidis. Pruthvi is survived by parents and a younger sister. It is said that the girl used to suffer from frequent bouts of accumulation of phlegm in her lungs, apart from fever.

Rural police station sub-inspector, Azmat Ali, has undertaken investigation. The policemen await report of the post mortem.
